Guided tour of Brantôme

brantôme

Description

The town of Brantôme developed in the shadow of its great abbey, but it never stopped trying to free itself from it. It was Edward I of England who authorised Brantôme to appoint 8 consuls who were answerable only to the seneschal of Périgord. Taxes were levied on goods passing through Brantôme and the town became an economic centre over the years. The architecture of the houses bears witness to this development.
Guided tours only for groups (20 people maximum) and by prior arrangement.
