Richemont Castle

saint-crepin-de-richemont

Description

The Château de Richemont, comprising two angled main buildings, was built from 1564 onwards by Pierre de Bourdeille, better known in the history of literature as Brantôme, a 16th-century chronicler and commendatory abbot of Brantôme. After a fall from his horse interrupted his military career, the famous author of the “Dames galantes” composed his works there and lived there until his death. He is buried in the chapel in the tower. He wrote his own epitaph. On the first floor, you will find the writer’s study, decorated with wood panelling, and the writer’s bedroom. Guided tours from mid-July to the end of August. Entrance to the château is via the driveway, with visitor parking.
