Groups
The tourist office manages the tourist section of Brantôme Abbey. We offer a range of guided tours for groups:
The Abbey Caves
Duration: 50 min to 1 hour
50 people maximum
You can discover the oldest part of the monastery, carved into the belly of the cliff and founded, according to legend, by Charlemagne towards the end of the 8th century. The tour includes the famous “Grotto of the Last Judgement” and the miraculous St Sicaire fountain.
This tour will be interrupted for safety work on the cliff in January and February 2026, and again from November 2026.
The cloister, abbey church and bell tower
Duration: 1h30 visit
Max 18 people for the bell tower
This tour will focus on the built-up part of the monastery, and will include a visit to the remains of the cloister and the abbey church of St-Pierre and St-Sicaire de Brantôme, as well as an ascent to the 11th-century bell tower (around 130 steps), which is not open to the public. Please note that the climb to the bell tower must be limited to 18 people, so the group must be split into several groups to gain access to the bell tower. Without a guided tour, the cloister, chapter house and church can be visited freely at no extra cost.
The cloister, the church and the abbot's domain (or the grotto of the Last Judgement)
Duration: approx. 1? hours
Max 40 people
The same tour without the constraint of the bell tower. It can therefore accommodate the whole group, and ends with the abbot’s domain with the bent bridge (or the Grotto of the Last Judgement, your choice).
As these two tours pass through the church, they may be moved in the event of religious ceremonies. We will inform you as soon as we are informed and find an alternative solution.
Former pilgrims' hostelry
Duration: approx. 1 hour
Max 30 people
This tour is an opportunity to discover this imposing building, representative of the abbey’s radiant past, by exploring its architecture with privileged access.
Visit to Brantôme town centre
Duration: approx. 1 hour
Max 30 people
Guided tour of the centre of Brantôme through its history and architecture, to discover this town which grew up on its island in the middle of the Dronne, in the shadow of its great abbey…
