Details
The city of Brantôme developed in close link with its large abbey, but constantly tried to free itself from its influence. King Edward I of England granted Brantôme the permission to appoint 8 consuls who were only dependent on the seneschal of Périgord. The goods sent through Brantôme were taxed and the city became an economical centre over the centuries. The architecture of the houses bears witness of this evolution. Guided tours for groups (20 people maximum) and by prior arrangement only.
